Client Overview:
UMAMI, under the umbrella of MTC International Development Holding Company, was selected to digitalize the Logistics Diploma curriculum for Grade-1 Secondary Industrial School students in Egypt.
This project was part of the Workforce Improvement and Skill Enhancement (WISE) initiative, funded by USAID, and aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030, focusing on quality education and decent work.
The goal was to upgrade Egypt’s technical education system, enhance employer-school connections, and foster local partnerships for economic development.
The Challenge:
The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the need for digital transformation in education, forcing institutions to rapidly adapt to e-learning solutions.
UMAMI faced several challenges while transforming the Logistics curriculum into interactive e-courses for a new generation of learners:
- Target Audience: Engaging Generation Z, who have shorter attention spans, required a fresh, fast-paced approach.
- Accessibility: Developing content that could be accessed by students with varying internet speeds across Egypt.
- New Learning Method: Introducing self-paced online lessons to high school students, a first-time experience for many.
- Technical Expertise: Ensuring the curriculum not only covered logistics but also safety, soft skills, and communication, with expert collaboration to ensure relevance to the workplace.
Dr. Ahmed Ghonim, UMAMI’s Chief Business Development Officer, emphasized that the challenge was to meet tight deadlines while bringing innovation into the project, making UMAMI an ideal partner for this transformative project.
The Solution:
UMAMI’s instructional design team created a blended learning experience, incorporating interactive, personalized, and rapid content delivery compatible with all devices (PC, tablet, mobile). The solution included:
- Instructional Design: Highly customized courses that aligned with students’ needs and learning styles.
- Gamification: Educational games and simulations were incorporated to keep learners engaged and challenged.
- Real-life Scenarios: Through the work of subject matter expert Ms. Dina Sallam, real-world logistics scenarios were embedded into the content, linking education to the labor market.
UMAMI’s design approach was centered on creating an engaging experience for students, using colorful and intuitive design elements to guide students through the lessons, ensuring they never felt stuck. The development team crafted unique templates that fit the project’s goals and aimed for a smooth, accessible learning experience.
UMAMI Secret Recipe:
UMAMI’s philosophy centered on:
- Branched Scenarios & Interactive Videos: Allowing students to make decisions and see consequences in real-world simulations.
- Gamification & Case Studies: Using competitive elements and realistic scenarios to motivate and engage students.
